FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPANIES IN THE NETHERLANDS

Your Dutch office falls under Dutch Law. Is your RI&E covered?

Every employer with staff in the Netherlands, including foreign companies with a Dutch branch, is legally required to have an RI&E under the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet). No exceptions.

Does your company need an RI&E? Find out in 2 minutes.

Answer a few quick questions and get a clear picture of your RI&E obligations — specific to your situation as a foreign company in the Netherlands.

Do any of these sound familiar?

Setting up a Dutch office involves a lot. Staying compliant with local labor law is one challenge international companies frequently miss, until it's too late.

Dutch law is unfamiliar territory

The Arbowet requires a formal risk assessment for every workplace with employees. For HQ's abroad, these obligations are easy to overlook — until the Labour Inspectorate (Inspectie SZW) comes knocking. Fines can reach tens of thousands of euros.

The language barrier

Dutch health & safety regulations are written in Dutch. Understanding exactly what applies to your office — and what qualifies as a valid RI&E — requires local expertise you don't have.

Bridging HQ and local requirements

Your company may have strong global EHS standards, but Dutch law has its own requirements. Aligning corporate policy with what Dutch inspectors actually look for requires someone who knows both worlds.

You didn't know this applied to you

Many foreign companies assume home-country safety policies are sufficient, or that Dutch HR handles it. The legal obligation sits with the employer — without a valid RI&E, you're exposed.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dutch health & safety law apply to our foreign company?
Yes. If your company employs anyone in the Netherlands — even just one person — you are subject to the Arbowet and legally required to have a valid RI&E. Your country of origin makes no difference.
Yes. We work in English and deliver the full report in English. If Dutch documentation is required for inspectors, we provide both versions.
Yes. Dutch law requires a specific format and independent review by a certified Dutch safety expert. Global frameworks cannot replace a formal Dutch RI&E. We’ll identify what your existing docs cover and what’s missing.
You risk an immediate fine from the Inspectie SZW and increased liability exposure in the event of a workplace accident. An up-to-date RI&E is your first line of legal protection.
